What is Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists strive to help kids acquire, retain, and advance the skills necessary for them to operate both within and outside of the classroom. As an illustration:

  • Self-care, which includes clothing, eating, taking care of one’s personal hygiene, and managing toileting needs.
  • Productivity (such as emotional control, attentiveness, involvement, handwriting, and organizational abilities),
  • Leisure (such as playing games, interacting with friends, being a member of a group, and practicing motor skills for physical education).

Each child has different sensory needs, and these needs change in response to therapy interventions, mood, and surroundings.

An occupational therapist helps children with autism develop their handwriting, fine motor, and everyday living skills. The most crucial part of the job is to identify and address the child’s variations in sensory processing.
